Bright Chimezie celebrates his first entry in the Spotify Top 100 after collaborating with Davido

Nearly 40 years after its initial release Nigerian highlife icon Bright Chimezie is experiencing a newfound level of fame as his timeless song “Because of English”  debuts on the Spotify Nigeria Top 100 Chart.

The 1984 single debuted at number one on the chart. 99 which was the veterans first time ever making the streaming services coveted list. This comeback follows a high-profile collaboration with Afrobeats maestro Davido.

This new song “With You” featuring Omah Lay was inspired by Bright Chimezies Because of English. The DMW boss who recently released his fifth studio album “5ive” publicly acknowledged this.

Beginning with a video call the two connected and eventually met in person in Lagos. Davido was seen hospitably hosting Bright Chimezie in viral videos shared on Monday May 19 2025 praising his musical legacy and connecting with him over their mutual appreciation of real Nigerian music. Davidos visit to Lagos was more than just a social gathering according to sources close to the singer including socialite Cubana Chief priest.

According to reports Bright Chimezie and Davido are working together on a new music video which fans believe might be for the song  “With You”.  @officialbrightchimezie Welcome Sir We Love and Celebrate You Thank You For Making @davido This Happy & Excited Cubana Chiefpriest wrote in a caption honoring the occasion. In a moment we will release an amazing music video for the worlds biggest song. Legends indeed never die.

True legends never go extinct as demonstrated by Bright Chimezies recent surge in popularity among younger audiences and the streaming era. He is well-known for his Zigima style and socially conscious storytelling.
