Amaarae a Ghanaian American singer-songwriter will be the main act at Princeton Universitys Fall 2025 Lawnparties. On Sunday September 7 2025 this event will take place in front of the Frist Campus Center. The main stage will be opened by the student band Casual Riot prior to Amaaraes performance. Among Princetons biggest student traditions are lawn parties which are held twice a year. A main act performances by Prospect Avenues eating clubs food vendors lawn games and other campus events are all part of the daylong celebration. Amaarae who has achieved international renown combines pop alté RandB and Afrobeats in her music. She was the first Ghanaian performer to play a solo set at Coachella in April having been born in the Bronx and raised in Accra Ghana and Atlanta New Jersey.
In August she released her most recent album Black Star which garnered over 5 million streams solidifying her position as one of the most distinctive voices in the genre. Her most well-known song is Sad Girlz Luv Money which was released in 2020 and became widely popular after being remixed with Kali Uchis in 2021. The selection of Amaarae is indicative of a change in genre for Lawnparties which in recent years have usually had rap headliners. Based on Apple Musics classifications she is the first Afro-Pop performer to be featured on the main stage.
In contrast to previous Lawnparties headliners she has a lower public profile. Amaarae is one of the lowest-ranked headliners since 2021 while Lil Tecca who topped the Spring 2024 lineup has over 27 million monthly Spotify listeners. Despite this the organizers think her artistic ability is more significant than her rankings. A member of the Lawnparties planning team Misa Mims 27 stated I believe that Amaarae is visionary in every way. . She is a versatile performer whose music has a contagious quality. . Beyond music Amaaraes inventive artistry is evident. Her songwriting reflects her frequent discussions of gender as a fluid concept. Her lyrics express intimacy without adhering to rigid gender binary classifications by varying pronouns.
Additionally the organizers stressed the importance of bringing a variety of viewpoints to campus. The announcement was given with the shortest notice since Fall 2021 just four days prior to the event. At 3:00 p. m. Amaarae is scheduled to perform. A. Along with new vendors like Alfalfa Jammin Crepes and Silver Line Wings this semesters celebrations will feature cuisine from well-known restaurants like Nomad Ticos Ritas Taco Bell and Cheesecake on a Stick.
Additionally kosher options will be offered. Lighter earth tones and bohemian fashions are encouraged for attendees. The performance by Amaarae who has a new sound and daring artistry is anticipated to be a highlight of this years Lawnparties and provide many Princeton students with an opportunity to see a rising star.
